Do you respond favorably as you are reading the copy on the writer's web site? This is more involved than just noting grammar and spelling errors. Does the copy make you experience any sort of emotional response? Does the web site copy make you like him or her? Does it make you want to follow up and discover more about the writer? Does the web site copy make you feel like you need to hire the writer immediately? Does the website copy make you want to run away? Does it make you mad? These are all crucial reactions and you need to listen to them.
Perform a little more inquiry on the writer. Look try these out for reviews for the writer on unbiased web sites and online discussion boards. It is probable that the only reviews on the copywriter's web site are going to be glowing ones. Conduct a search for the copywriter's name to determine if any reviews or testimonials pop up in places that are not run or that cannot be manipulated by the writer. These reviews and testimonials deserve attention. You have to also request the copywriter to provide you several references. Make sure that you follow up and actually contact those references and get an honest opinion from them.
It is important to actually read any samples provided to you by the writer. Ask for more samples than are displayed on the writer's site. This is especially important if the copywriter is touting himself or herself an expert in a niche. If the writing reads like a rewritten Wikipedia article, you need to find someone else.
